Catch 81 Spring Celebrity Golf Classic, March 28 & 29, 2008.

We are pleased to announce the success of the 2008 O. J. McDuffie Spring Celebrity Golf Classic, presented by Delray Beach Marriott, one of the most exciting golf tournaments in South Florida, which took place on Saturday, March 29, 2008.

The two day event kicked off with an incredible pairings party hosted by Gatsby’s Davie on Friday, March 28th.  As part of the weekend festivities, the VIP Pairings Party featured both a live and silent auction.  The Golf Tournament was held at The Palm Aire Country Club in Pompano on Saturday, March 29th. 

The 2008 Golf Classic will benefit the Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance (www.tsalliance.org).  Tuberous Sclerosis (TS) is a genetic condition characterized by seizures and tumor growth in vital organs such as the brain, heart, kidney, lungs and skin.  Most people with TS experience developmental delays, mental retardation or autism.  TS is the number one genetic cause of epilepsy and number two cause of autism.  It is estimated to affect nearly 50,000 people in the U.S. and more than one million people worldwide, and it is as common as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, but TS is still virtually unknown by the general population.  There are presently no cures and there is no way to predict how severely or mildly an individual may be affected by TS.

Proceeds from the Golf Classic will also go to The American Cancer Society (ACS) of Broward County and the Plantation Relay For Life (www.relayforlife.org/relay). An estimated 10,400 new cases were expected to occur among children aged 0-14 in 2007 as well as an estimated 1,545 deaths. Although uncommon, cancer is the second leading cause of death in children, exceeded only by accidents. By supporting ACS and the Plantation Relay For Life, Catch 81 Foundation is assisting in fighting cancer at a grass roots level. Through Relay For Life, ACS provides information about the programs and services as well as education about prevention and early detection.
